Penjelasan Tentang Adverb (Kata Keterangan)

Adverbs adalah kata keterangan. adverbs dan adjectives memiliki kesamaan. Jika ditinjau dari segi filsafat bahasa, kedua kata ini diawali dengan kata "ad" yang memungkinkan adanya arti "add" atau "penambahan". Jika adjective menambahkan kejelasan arti pada benda-benda, maka adverbs menambahkan kejelasan terhadap kata kerja, misalnya:

"She runs slowly" ( Dia berlari dengan lambar ). kata "slowly" merupakan adverb yang menjelaskan atau menambah kejelasan pada makna "runs" (bagaimana dia berlari), bukannya "she". Meskipun yang berlari (runs) adalah subject "she", namun adverbs dari kata "slowly" menjelaskan kata kerja. Sehingga memberi makna jelas bahwa "berlarinya dilakukan dengan lambat".

Jadi, adverbs itu adalah kata keterangan yang memberi penjelasan pada semua kata lain kecuali kata benda. Pada umumnya adverbs dapat dibentuk dari adjectives dengan menambahkan kata "ly" dibelakang kata sifat tersebut. Namun, peraturan ini tidak berlaku untuk semua kata sifat.

Pengertian Singular and Plural


Jika suatu benda (thing) tersebut berjumlah hanya satu (tunggal), maka benda tersebut adalah dapat dikatakan singular (tunggal). dan jika jumlahnya lebih dari satu (banyak), maka benda tersebut adalah plural (jamak).

Dalam belajar Bahasa Inggris tentunya kita sering mendengar atau mendapatkan materi singular and plural. Dalam kasus ini, bentuk singular and plural sering digunakan pada nouns (kata benda) untuk menunjukkan apakah kata benda tersebut jumlahnya tunggal atau jamak. 

Biasanya pada kata benda, untuk menandakan atau menunjukkan bahwa kata benda tersebut jamak, kita cukup menambahkan akhiran " -s/-es" diakhir katanya. Tetapi ada beberapa yang tidak menggunakan akhiran "-s/-es".
